Doujinshi [Yuusei]

I started out translating Hakka-ya doujin with Wings of Yuri, but I’ve decided to do releases independently now.  The doujin that I’ve had a hand in translating will have download links provided below!

Also note that I may occasionally do releases for doujin that’ve already been translated by others, as I’m rather fussy about wording, and I hope that some day, I’ll be able to translate all Hakka-ya Bucap doujin by myself!  And I subscribe to a more liberal, creative appraoch with translations, but some of my earlier releases have rather crappy translations, so please try to ignore that…

Also, my pseudonym, Arwyn, is rather un-Japanese so I’ve decided to give a Japanese-y name to my solo scanlation efforts:

Yuusei.

  1. Quite a perfectionist, aren’t we?

I’m in full support of your re-translation if it needs to be done. That, and thank you for the releases of course. It’d still be a long time until I can read any book on my own…

How long did it take you to learn Japanese?

    • Haha, I take solace in checking and rechecking and double-rechecking… =D

But I gotta say, no matter what you do, it just doesn’t give the same feeling as reading in the original Japanese dialogue. There’s a certain gentleness that I have trouble conveying with the translations.

And hm… it took me around two years to get a functional understanding of Japanese; time spent beyond that was a focus more on nuances and such. I’m in the process of expanding my vocabulary, now.

  2. Are there any plans of the rest of Buchou Musou being translated by other groups? I really like the vignettes that are translated, but also ones not translated either. Any Hisa is good Hisa to me. :P

    • I’m not too sure on that. I don’t keep close tabs on other scanlation groups, but I do know someone who wants to try translating it. As for if or when that’ll take place… =P

  3. Hey. There’s an error on page 58 of “Buchou Musou” (and possibly elsewhere). Subject-verb agreement for singular third-person proper noun (should be ‘was’). :D

Hakkaya stuff is pretty darn cute. >_>

    • Kyyyy.
Thanks for pointing that out! Though your “and possibly elsewhere” comment means I won’t be able to leave Buchou Musou alone till I read the whole thing through again, which I don’t really have time for. =(
But I’ll try fixing it as soon as possible. Sniff.

And why am I not surprised that you’re the first one to point this mistake out? =P

Hakkaya stuff is pretty darn cute. >_>

Only you could give an understatement like that. :D

      – A.

      • Though your “and possibly elsewhere” comment means I won’t be able to leave Buchou Musou alone till I read the whole thing through again

No no, I don’t believe there are any other errors in that particular one; I meant that I think there was a similar agreement error in one of your other translations, but I don’t remember which. :P I’d have to read them all myself again.

        Oh, the pain.

The awful, awful saccharine pain. ;)

  4. And why am I not surprised that you’re the first one to point this mistake out? =P

And somehow, I suspect only us two would really care about that sort of thing in a concrete manner… ^^

  5. So hey there, just wondering if the RAW downloads to Buchou Musou are working still. Either it’s just me or the file has been corrupted. I wanted to see the rest of the doujin, but the download links aren’t working out for me.
Also, thanks for going through all the trouble of translating Hakkaya doujin. Been a BuCap fan since I seen Saki back in 2009 (even though I don’t really know much about mahjong), so your contributions have been a great help and always a joy to read. By the way, will you update your “Falter” remake sometime soon?

    Thanks.

    • Hullo, just now I downloaded the two .rar files via Mediafire and extracted them without any problems, so you might want to try one more time. If you’re having trouble extracting the files I recommend 7zip as it’s worked for me (on Windows) thus far. If it’s still not working for you after retrying, please do let me know!

And no problem! I’m glad you enjoy the translated stuff. Just doing my part in spreading the Hakka-ya fluffy goodness. And the funny thing is, while Hisa and Mihoko were my favourite by far compared to other pairings back when Saki first aired (NodoSaki, KajuMomo, KyoutarouTeleportingButler have nothing on Bucap ;D), I didn’t love the pairing in a completely OTP way until a bit later.

      And RE: “Falter”
While I haven’t completely given up on it, my (rather annoying) perfectionism is kind of acting as a sort of giant blockade. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with Warehouse 13 or H.G. and Myka (highly recommended f/f pairing, by the way — second only to Hisa and Mihoko), but I’ve been writing something for it and the document’s kind of just… sitting around, staring back at me defiantly whenever I open it up. Anyway, long story short, I would love to update it soon, but I have little control over my fickle and capricious mind.

Hope you continue to enjoy any future releases. =)

  6. Yup, 7zip worked fine! Thanks for replying so quick too. Now if I could understand all of this, everything would be perfect. BuCap has always been a favorite of mine ever since the two have shown on-screen together. The pairing seems more canon in the anime than the manga, seeing how the “rubies and sapphires” part was an anime-exclusive(?). More of any one of them–preferably Hisa, as she is my favorite character in the series– is enough is make my day.

Perfectionism, eh? It can good and bad at the same time. I hope that you’ll be able finish the next chapter sometime. There has been a lack of fanfictions regarding the two in the archive and the manga is going a snail’s space. No thanks for Achiga for that, but I love me some Teru Time.

Really enjoying the work that you put in your releases and I’ll be back to check up on anything new. Best of luck! :D

On a side note: It’s weird; no Mako at all in Buchou Musou. o.O

    • I’m glad 7zip resolved the issue — I’m not very good at troubleshooting in general. =P

The pairing seems more canon in the anime than the manga, seeing how the “rubies and sapphires” part was an anime-exclusive(?)

      Definitely! I wrote about it awhile ago, but yeah — the manga barely has anything for Bucap fans to go on. If anything, the single most defining moment in Bucap (Hisa being completely charming and commenting on how pretty Mihoko’s right eye is) is anime-only. And Hisa’s subsequent recognition of Mihoko as “that girl I played against three years ago” is… also anime-only. (Individuals were not touched upon in the manga.) So… yeah. ^^;

More of any one of them–preferably Hisa, as she is my favorite character in the series– is enough is make my day.

Mine too! The Hisa manga chapters for the nationals = too charming, too Hisa not to translate. :D I wasn’t pleased that they nerfed her just so Nodoka and Saki could be amazing, though. =\

On a side note: It’s weird; no Mako at all in Buchou Musou. o.O

      Now that you mention it…
Though somehow I’m not surprised — Mako gets the least love out of the Kiyosumi girls. I think she had… half a chapter to her name in the nationals? Poor Mako, no one thinks the old-man talk is moe.

  7. Haha, oh damn, you’ve translated a ton of Hakka-ya since I last checked. I’m looking forward to having an amazing time catching up on all of them. I ended up not checking your blog for a while after you seemed to switch focus for a bit to another fandom (and didn’t think to check back due to a lack of Falter updates, :P), but managed to catch one of your posts in a random /u/ thread. Glad to see that you’ve been so active.

Incidentally, as a matter of maybe getting a bit more visibility for Hakka-ya out there, have you thought about having these doujins hosted by some of the existing online readers? Dynasty-scans (http://dynasty-scans.com/reader/) is the major yuri aggregator I usually follow, perhaps I should have made a suggestion for them to contact you about potential hosting services.

Going to trackback a bit through your blog now; I’m curious to see whether you followed or enjoyed Saki: Achiga-hen ;).

(On the Saki anime vs. manga discussion above, I wanted to add that as far as I’m aware, Ritz actually oversaw most of the anime-original elements. In particular, the individuals arc from the anime is definitely canon to the main story, so I’m not so sure Ritz wasn’t also behind the extra Hisa x Mihoko elements. This might just be my optimism getting ahead of me, but given the way the Saki anime project in general has been working out, I really don’t think it’s too farfetched that when the anime came around Ritz herself might not have wanted to take the opportunity to flesh out some of the earlier parts of her story.)

    • Oh hey, it’s been a while!

Haha, oh damn, you’ve translated a ton of Hakka-ya since I last checked.

Yeah, Tokumi Yuiko sure has been keeping herself busy the last few years! For some reason, raws for her more recent stuff haven’t been made available for the longest time… which means there’s a huge (and wonderful) backlog of untranslated Hakka-ya doujin now. So I try my best to help rectify this situation.

I ended up not checking your blog for a while after you seemed to switch focus for a bit to another fandom (and didn’t think to check back due to a lack of Falter updates, :P)

Haha, as much as I may stray to other fandoms, until I stop liking Itou Shizuka (my favourite seiyuu ever), I doubt I’ll lose interest in Hisa. And by extension, Mihoko, since they’re perfect together, as Hakka-ya so kindly illustrates. ( `v`)!

Incidentally, as a matter of maybe getting a bit more visibility for Hakka-ya out there, have you thought about having these doujins hosted by some of the existing online readers?

Hm, honestly, I’m a bit ambivalent on the whole issue. I have trouble taking a stance either way beyond an overwhelming sense of “I dunno…”, so… I dunno. :D

      RE: Kobayashi Ritz

That’s very interesting — I definitely didn’t know about that. I kind of live under a rock sometimes when it comes to anime (unless it’s about seiyuu). Still, it’s odd that the anime and manga are so different in its tone. I mean, sure, the anime has an overwhelming number of Male Gaze and ‘hai Nodoka’s silicone bewbs’ shots just like the manga, but the anime is so… overwhelmingly gay. It drowns itself in subtext, while the manga is oddly lacking in the yuri department if you go from anime to manga. Though it’s possible that the anime gives a lot more leeway since there’s so much more time/space available to tell the story — I mean, Saki could’ve easily been adapted into a thirteen-episode series instead if you cut out all the non-manga stuff.

  8. Hey , there is a “Will You Marry Me 3” on Wings of Yuri too, but you have to download pages one by one as they did not provide a collate download for this .

    • I’m not sure why you’re telling me this. I didn’t have a hand in translating Will You Marry Me 3, so it wouldn’t and shouldn’t be here.

And since I can read raws, I have no need for the translated version in the first place. Besides, even if I had it (which I don’t) I wouldn’t put it on this page — it’s in extremely poor taste to rehost someone else’s scanlations without permission (or to link directly to their file, which is not applicable in this case).

For future reference, please do not make vague, passive, and implicit semi-requests or ask me to basically steal credit for others’ scanlation work. If, on the other hand, none of my links were working for a given work that I translated, I would be more than happy to upload it again. All Hakka-ya doujin I’ve done are listed on this page, so they shouldn’t be that difficult to differentiate.

      • I see, ok. Sorry for that request, because I thought it will be better if you translate them too or request from them for a link to share with the fans since there is the first and the second where you do joint projects with Wings of Yuri .

But if there is no need, I’m sorry I said that!

        • Hm, I guess you wouldn’t know, but I no longer have any contact with anyone from Wings of Yuri, so I don’t think it would make much difference whether it’s you, me, or someone else requesting a link.

I /am/ interested in translating Will You Marry Me 3 myself eventually (RE: [This list is no longer updated, as I plan on translating all HxM Hakkaya doujin myself… eventually.] from above), but obviously that’ll have to take a backseat to the still untranslated ones.

            • I wouldn’t know whether Tokumi’s going to do more doujin for Will You Marry Me or not, but at the very least I know WYMM4 isn’t the last one.

There’s a Will You Marry Me 5 that was published on September 23rd, 2012. But I haven’t even seen the raws for it either.

            • Wow, there’s Will You Marry Me 5 already!
              I hope we see more of Misa & Saho-tan, they’re so cute~ !

  9. Thank you for all your hard work!! It truly warms my heart to be able to read these Bucap doujins. A part of me would love to go to comiket to buy them myself, but another part of me knows that then I’d go broke haha

On another note, do you happen to know if the とてもとてもとてもかわいい link still works? When I tried to download part 1 of the raw I had some issues, but I’m not sure if that’s just my computer or not.

But I digress. Thank you so much for these and I look forward to whatever is next!

    • I seem to have gotten a similar (the same?) error message when I tried downloading part one — something about limiting the downloads for archives. The problem seemed to disappear once I logged in (and back out) of my MF account, so I’m not sure if the limit is imposed because I haven’t logged in for an X number of days, or if the settings/privileges for the uploader are somehow carrying over despite being logged out.

Long story short, could you please try and see if you can download it now? If you can’t, I’ll see what I can do about uploading it elsewhere.

      • For some reason I still get the error message about archive limits.

If it’s not too much trouble, that would be greatly appreciated!

            • That’s very, very strange… =\

The only other solution I can think of is to upload it to another file hosting upload site, but do you know of any that will a) accept files ~143 MB in size, b) won’t delete uploads after thirty days of inactivity?

Filebeam keeps files despite inactivity, but won’t acecpt 143 MB files, and MediaFire is being weird. From what I understand, RapidShare is shit now after the MegaUpload scare, and Minus doesn’t accept .zip files anymore. YouSendIt was free before, but now it makes you pay for their service (and allows you to sign up for a ‘free trial’, which only sounds like it’ll expire in a month or so).

I’ll try and upload it without “part1” in the file name and see if it makes a difference, but if that still doesn’t work, I’ll need to know of a reliable file hosting site to be able to do anything.

  10. Thank you so much for the translations. I just wanted you to know that your work makes Bucap fans like me (=who can’t read a word of japanese) really happy.
Keep up the great work and have a nice day :)

  11. Thanks for translating all of these. My Japanese isn’t good enough to read the raws yet, so I really appreciate what you’re doing.

    • Oh, no problem! It’s my pleasure, really. I love Bucaup to bits, and Hakka-ya’s stuff is always so lovely, sweet, and fluffy. =) Thanks for leaving a comment!

    • Ah, that’s the Japanese text peeking through. It’s too small of an error to justify fixing, zipping, reuploading, and updating several links, though.
