It’s their characters I’m in love with more than the actresses themselves, so it doesn’t translate over very well to Spartacus. Even though Jaime is looking veeery sexy and rawr in this photo here.
And even if H.G. were to time travel back to Xena’s time, I don’t think I would like it very much if they started snogging and having sex. Xena x Gabby forever. D:
Well your issue is with breaking up OTPs. =P I can’t argue with that.
Now that you mention it, that’s probably my beef with it. Imagining a pre-Myka, steampunky H.G. flirting shamelessly with a pre-Gabby, Conqueror-ish Xena doesn’t leave as much of a sour aftertaste as imagining straight-up H.G. and Xena.
Though of course, that would mean a purely sexual relationship where Xena exploits the hell out of what she can get from H.G.’s fantastical technology… and of course sexually as well.
There’s also the issue of H.G. having only canonically travelled back in time once, for her Christina. Which would put a dent in the H.G. and Xena thing, since even if she made another time machine after the one fried in “When and Where”, we would decidedly be in a Myka!H.G. timeframe.
Besides which, doing a Warehouse 13 and X:WP crossover simply to get H.G. and Xena together is a little too gratuitous, even for my taste.
… clearly, my brain is like a natural blocker for crack pairings whose only purpose in existence is to be sexy. … now I’m craving some Conqueror fanfiction as well. Why does no one ever write Conqueror or Alt stories anymore? It’s Uber this Uber that. =__=
/pointless brain thoughts
I’m not much for crack-fic in general and even less for crack-pairings. Then there are the pairings which I personally consider to be crack just because they make me shudder, but which have enormous followings – such as the vast majority of Harry Potter pairings, now there’s a fandom that loves its squicky ships. Quite often I’ll watch a show for the canon pairing, like Farscape or Castle, but have no desire to read fic about it, or if I do it’s for some smaller niche pairing which I consider better.
However, saying that, there are the pairings which at first blush may look like absolute crack, but on further reflection make so much sense as to leave you floored in terms of character and universe, like Emma and Regina in Once Upon a Time. Not only do Jennifer Morrison and Lana Parilla have the most amazing BST you can imagine, but it can inspire fic like this by heartsways. Mind it’s still ongoing, 14 parts so far.
Hm, I just watched a little bit of Once Upon a Time, and I don’t see the BST (yet?), but Parrilla makes a great Evil Queen.
Even in the first episode you see some *very* heated face-offs full of sneering and sustained eye contact. Lana Parilla especially has amazing control of her expression, lots of subtle changes over the course of even a single close up which build up to great effect. Just do a search on tumblr for it to see some very impressive gifs and screencaps.
